Ortho-K is a special type of Gas Permeable (rigid) contact lens that is worn overnight and removed during the day. The Ortho-K lens gently re-shapes the cornea, which results in a temporary reduction in nearsighted prescription. People who wear Ortho-K lenses can typically enjoy clear vision all day long, without the use of glasses or contact lenses. Ortho-K is not permanent and can be discontinued at any time with no adverse effects, thus is a good alternative to LASIK. Ortho-K has been proven to slow the progression of nearsightedness (Myopia), and therefore is a great option for children whose eyes are changing as they grow. Good candidates for Ortho-K include those people with healthy eyes and low to moderate amounts of nearsightedness. Our doctors will be able to determine if you are an ideal candidate for Ortho-K.
